We are seeking dedicated and motivated Entry Level Federal Background Investigators with previous experience in investigations to join our client's expanding team nationwide as contract investigators (1099 status).
As a Background Investigator, you will support national security and suitability investigations, performing background checks on behalf of government clients. Our client offers industry-leading reimbursement rates for background investigations and supporting casework. We highly value our Investigators and the critical role they play in achieving our mission objectives.
Position Details:
- Status: Full and Part-time (1099 contractor, no benefits)
- Workload: Minimum of 15 source units per week
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants who do not meet the following criteria will not be considered for this position:
- Must have an active TS clearance.
- Must have successfully complete an OPM approved New Investigators Training course.
- Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
- Must have prior investigative experience.
- Ability to work remotely and travel; must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to build rapport with new people.
- Proficient in using personal computers and business solutions software.
- Ability to synthesize information, identify key findings, and draw conclusions.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations/laws regarding investigations.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct interviews, retrieve records, conduct research, and prepare investigative reports in compliance with federal standards and laws.
- Conduct face-to-face interviews with applicants, neighbors, coworkers, friends, and associates.
- Complete record searches at law enforcement agencies, courthouses, and institutions (mental health, financial, educational).
- Compile clear and concise reports to determine employment suitability and security clearance eligibility, adhering to investigative standards.
- Meet quality, timeliness, and production metrics in a rapid, time-sensitive environment.
- Interact with team leaders and case review officers to ensure thorough investigations.
- Perform additional duties or specific tasks as assigned.
